Training for FOI decision-makers

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General offers courses on the Freedom of Information Act 1992, including the new amendments.

FOI courses are designed for FOI decision-makers and officers from agencies and local government. Courses will be advertised on this website. Please note that registration for all courses is by way of the official registration form.

Courses are conducted throughout Queensland in response to the level of demand.

Courses

Introduction to FOI (full day course)
	Participants will gain an understanding of the principles and applications of the FOI Act, become familiar with the procedures for dealing with applications and how to claim the more common exemption provisions.

Child applications (½ day course)
	Participants will gain guidance in dealing with FOI applications for information concerning children and applications made by or on behalf of children.

Fees and charges (½ day course)
	Participants will gain an understanding of applying fees and charges for applications, waiving of fees and charges, PANs and FANs.

Statement of reasons
	Participants will gain an understanding of the requirements of the FOI Act to provide applicants with notification and reasons for decisions.

Personal affairs
	Participants will gain an understanding of what personal affairs information is, how access to it may be provided or refused, and how the public interest balancing test should be applied.
